International week of Deaf People is celebrated around the world
Gashbun Organization hold a week of International occasion of the deaf people at Gashbun centers in Syrian refugee camps, there is a big number of people with hearing disability and with deaf problems living in refugee camps in Kurdistan region of Iraq in Duhok city. Gashbun Organization pays great attention to the people with disability and special needs where in its centers provide them with different services, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, autism rehabilitation individual sessions, special education, integration, awareness and capacity building training for service providers.
Deaf people with their caregivers and/ or parents also receive services, moral services, finance services, special education, awareness, medical care and referral pathway,
The International Week of Deaf People
Gashbun spent five day in activity allocated for deaf people as the international week of deaf people in all round Duhok city, celebrating, holding party, awareness campaigns, advocating for moral and finance support for the refugee deaf people.
International Week of the Deaf (IWDF) is celebrated annually across the world during the last full week of September since 2024, it was celebrated together with the official International Day of Sign Languages, declared by the United Nations for the first time in 1959. The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), its national associations, and their affiliates all over the world observe International Week of the Deaf from Monday through Sunday, culminating in International Day of the Deaf on the final Sunday of the week
In order to commemorate International Week of the Deaf, Gashbun Organization invites its national and local associations and their community baes Organization to center their celebrations on the theme of Human Rights through Sign Languages. With this emphasis, deaf culture and the accomplishments of deaf people are highlighted more and are positively portrayed. This emphasis fosters better deaf people’s rights advocacy activities and strengthens the bonds of solidarity between deaf people and those who support them.
