Autism Rehabilitation Training

Gashbun NGO has a center in Domiz1 camp for Syrian refugees. Autism rehabilitation training is provided for autistic children at the center.

Children with autism are the children with special needs, they are brought to the center by Gashbun’s own vehicle with assist of a social worker.

This special service is provided in the center as an intervention to reduce symptoms, improve cognitive ability and daily living skills, and maximize the ability of the child to function and participate in the community.

Behavioral intervention activities for children with autism spectrum disorder focus on social communication skill development, which may reduce restricted interests and repetitive and challenging behaviors.

For some children, occupational and speech therapy may be helpful, as could social skills training and medication enable the autistic children to improve their social interaction. The best treatment or intervention can vary depending on an individual’s age, strengths, challenges, and differences.

There are also other therapies that can be part of a complete treatment program for a child with Autism as the trainer uses techniques to focus on emotional and relational development (feelings and relationships with parents and caregivers). It also focuses on how the child deals with sights, sounds, and smells, in addition to, providing of occupational therapy social skills training and speech therapy.

The objectives of the service are to develop child’s speech skills and respond to information coming through senses. Enable autistic children to converse, share, play and work with typical peersSupport children to control their emotions, behaves, mitigate behavioral problems and promote adaptation skills. Develop self –adaptation, social relationships among other childrenProvide a safe and happy environment among families of children with Down syndrome.

There are 25 cases of children with autism in Domiz1&2 camps and 4 cases in Domiz urban 6 cases in Bardarash camp and 9 cases in Gawelan camp of Syrian refugee, this is according to a survey conducted by Gashbun teams in 2022.
