Psychotherapy by Gashbon NGO
This activity is run by a psychotherapist. The target includes ((100 from Domiz1 camp, 30 from Domiz2, 50 from Bardarash camp and 20 outside the camps)
The main goal of this activity is to support the well-being of children with disabilities and help the families in need of special support to cope with the difficulties their children experience daily. Children with disabilities and their caregivers can face various social problems, including the risk of receiving inadequate emotional and social support. AS such, the experiences of disability can lead to negative self-image and low self-esteem. Children and youth with disabilities may face other challenges, for example, barriers to physical access to services, negligence and negative attitudes from peers and adults. In addition, parents or caregivers might not be able to compensate for these challenges. Caregivers can experience physical, emotional, financial and social distress and as a result the child receives less stimulation and encouragement for its development.
Objectives:
Decrease stress and anxiety. Support children to control their emotions, mitigate behavioral problems and promote adaptation skills. Develop self –adaptation, social relationships and self-esteem of children. Provide a safe and happy environment among families of children with disabilities.
Methods:
family visits. Individual psychotherapy sessions with an emphasis on play, non-verbal communication and developmental processes. counselling sessions for parents and caregivers on how to adapt to the disabilities of their child. Follow up sessions. Observations of the children during the activities in Gashbun center.
